Camping In My Bedroom, or why to shop local first
In a recent attempt at grown-up competence, I caved to my fiancée's concerns that our mattress was 'lumpy'. I tried to defend my weary mattress, an accomplice to rest I'd been dragging around between apartments since about 2019. The more I said, the more I realised - it's time. I organised the collection of said faithful lump for one Thursday morning, after purchasing an Ecosa mattress online and selecting a 10am - 2pm delivery window.
Cut to 11am on said Thursday, ol' lumpy is collected by a recycling company, no issues at all, other than the slight and embarrassing difficulty I had wrangling the mattress over the balcony rail while Adrienne stood watch below.
Time ticks on...our new mattress is not delivered by 2pm. I presume the delivery has been bumped, without notification, to the 2pm - 6pm window. I hang in a little longer.
5pm, I try and call the delivery company, no answer. I call Ecosa and am directed to use their live chat function online, then hung up on. Joyous. I commence an online chat which unsurprisingly goes nowhere. Like the new mattress, because it never arrived!
I had to work that night, and arrived home in the early morning to a depressing scene: my darling fiancée trying to rest on a terrible, noisy blow-up mattress usually reserved for last-minute emergency stays.
The next day, I try contacting Ecosa and their delivery partner again to no avail. After remaining unanswered on "live chat" for about an hour, I call a local mattress company and secure a similar product at a better price. I wish this had occurred to me in the first place! By the afternoon and a quick round trip to the Bayside, I had a fresh new mattress on the bed awaiting two sleepy and sore dreamers.
Ecosa continued to be lax on their replies to me, insisting that they can't refund me until they ensure the mattress has returned to their warehouse. Except, they're not processing a return, I cancelled an order which never arrived. It took a chargeback dispute with my bank to get this point across. I'm still awaiting the refunded dollars but at least I'm sleeping soundly.
Moral of the story, shop local first!
